Host City Eurovision 2023: Liverpool

Why is the UK hosting Eurovision 2023?
With their composition Stefania, Ukraine’s Kalush Symphony won the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest.
Normally, the winning nation holds the tournament the following year, but the continuing conflict in Ukraine makes this impossible.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the competition, asked the United Kingdom to host on behalf of Ukraine because UK contestant Sam Ryder finished second in the 2022 performance.
The UK will host the tournament for the ninth time, and the fifth time on behalf of another nation.

Who Will Compete In Which Semi-Final?
Ukraine and the other Big-5 nations (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom) were pre-qualified for the Grand Final on May 13, 2023. The remaining nations will be assigned to one of two semi-finals, which will be placed on May 9 and 11, 2023. The allotment lottery will take place on January 31, 2023.
Ten nations from each Semi-finals will advance to the Grand Final, which will involve 26 countries: ten from Semi-final 1, ten from Semi-final 2, the Big Five, and Ukraine.
Eurovision Village: Pier Head

During the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, the designated festival location will be Eurovision Village.
Live concerts by musicians and DJs, special events, and general watching of programs broadcast from the Arena are all available in Eurovision Village.
Eurovision Village will hold 25,000 persons and will be accessible from 13:00 to 23:00. (British time). It will shut after the Grand Final on Saturday, May 13th.

EuroClub: Camp and Furnace
The EuroClub is Liverpool’s main party location for special events, official afterparties, and participant acts.
EuroClub 2023 will take place at Camp and Furnace, 67 Greenland Street, from Friday, May 5 to Saturday, May 13. Camp and Furnace is made up of a variety of adaptable storage and workshop spaces that work together to create an industrial and rural environment. Every night, it will be able to accommodate over 2000 partygoers as the Euroclub.
OGAE UK, the UK branch of the international fan group, and its Ukrainian counterparts are collaborating with Camp and Furnace and some of the finest Eurovision DJs to present nine evenings of Eurovision music. Euroclub will feature some very special acts, both from this year’s Eurovision and previous competitions, in addition to being a location to dance the night away.
Week tickets are available for pre-sale to OGAE members (which cover Sunday 7 – Saturday 13 May). Day passes and general admission tickets will be available in March. More information is available at euroclub2023.co.uk.

How Much Does Eurovision Cost?
Broadcasters from the 37 participating countries each pay an EBU membership fee. In recent years, these fees have totaled around £5 million. Russia was kicked out of the competition after its invasion of Ukraine.
According to BBC News, countries have been asked to pay more to compensate for their loss. As a consequence of the increase, three nations have stated that they will not participate.
Some broadcasters are also concerned about the increased costs of transporting equipment to the UK now that it is no longer a member of the EU.
The BBC expects the show to cost between £8m and £17m to the stage. The UK government has pledged £10 million towards operational costs, while Liverpool city council has pledged £4 million.

How Does The Voting Work?
The semi-finals are decided by popular vote, but the final is a little trickier. Each of the 26 countries has its own jury, which ranks all of the final performances.
They award a fixed number of points to their top ten acts: 12 points, 10 points, eight points, seven points, six points, five points, four points, three points, two points, and one point.
On the night, each country announces the jury results in turn.
Following the same scoring system, competing countries award points to the other contestants based on viewer votes.
For the first time, popular ballots from outside Europe will be counted in 2023. Worldwide votes will be aggregated and counted as if they were from a different country.
Why Does Australia Take Part In Eurovision?
Australia has long been a fan of Eurovision, and the nation was requested to send a representative to the contest’s 60th-anniversary celebrations in 2015. Since then, it has been allowed to join. It, like the rest of Europe, sends a fee to the EBU to help finance the event.
However, Australia is banned from organizing. If it ever won, it would have to select a European country to host the competition on its behalf. Other non-European countries, including Israel, can participate because they are EBU partners.

Each of the nine live performances in Liverpool, including dress practices, had 6,000 tickets available, with the staging, set, and production needs cutting capacity for each performance almost in half.
