The history of the University of Camerino (Unicam) stretches back to 1336 when the “Studium Generale” was founded. The institution was called “Universitas Studii Generalis” in 1727 by Pope Benedictus XIII. The institution changed its name to the University of Camerino in 1958 after becoming a public university.

A little town in central-eastern Italy called Camerino is where the university is situated. The city of Camerino is located in the Italian Marche province of Macerata. The university includes three other campuses in Ascoli Piceno, Matelica, and San Benedetto del Tronto in addition to its main campus in Camerino. The institution has a planetarium, a sports complex, and a number of libraries. Additionally, it has a Museum of Sciences and lovely floral gardens.

The university has five schools: the schools of law, pharmacy, science and technology, and the faculties of architecture and design, pharmacy, biosciences, and veterinary medicine. There are several departments offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees within each institution.

The School of Advanced Studies provides Ph.D. programs in the following disciplines: physics, earth and materials science; architecture, design, and planning; biotechnology; chemical and pharmaceutical sciences; computer science and mathematics; legal and social sciences; life and health sciences.
